Last week I was honored to photograph the Ellie's Light event that took place in Lakeville.
It was the second event in remembrance of Ellie. This beautiful girl passed away in October 2010 tragically and unexpectedly at the age of 9 months. Her parents started
Ellie's Light, a non-profit which raises money to create comfort items and memory packets for families who have a critically ill or dying child in the ICU of children's hospitals . They also do many other things such as donate blankets and stuffed animals, serve meals at the Ronald McDonald House, make huge contributions to Toys for Tots, and more.
Ellie's mom and I briefly worked together back when I first started as a nurse and we reconnected after I began reading her blog. I have since done Ellie's
big brother's pictures and Ellie's new little
brother and sister's pictures in the last few months. So I was more than honored to be the event photographer for the fundraising event last week.
It was at Brunswick XL in Lakeville which is this huge new bowling alley, laser tag, arcade, and food/drink center. It was awesome and the perfect location for the event. People could bowl, eat pizza, drink, and bid on the large selection of silent auction items as well as enter into some pretty sweet raffle drawings (I even won a silent auction item ; ) ). I was beyond impressed with the turn out. A lot of people obviously loved Ellie or were touched by her story somehow.
While nothing, I imagine, could ever take the pain away of losing a child...this event keeps her happy spirit alive and her light shining.
